Healthy Mind, Healthy Body by Exercise Physiologist Caroline Fitzgerald

As an exercise physiologist, one of the most common questions we get asked is - what we do and whether we are more like a physiotherapist or a personal trainer.

As an EP, we’re clinically qualified to treat musculoskeletal injuries, chronic disease and clinical disorders using exercise as therapy. What this means is, that we work with your other therapists (be this a GP, physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath etc) to take the next step from manual therapy.

While manual therapy is fantastic in terms of getting you out of pain, to prevent pain from reoccurring (and disordered movement becoming a long-term impedance) we need to look at changing movement patterns to achieve long-term results.

Working as part of a team with your allied health providers, your EP will develop a program to take you from the initial rehabilitation phase all the way through to progression and strengthening.

We believe that exercise should be one of the key steps in your herapy/treatment plan, whether it be for musculoskeletal rehabilitation, chronic disease (such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease) ageing healthily or general health and fitness.
